Human Rights Education for Psychologists

Recent events all over the world stress the importance of safeguarding Human Rights

Armed conflicts cause millions of people to abandon their homes and to flee to safer locations under dangerous and often life threatening conditions. Psychologists have a special responsibility in the promotion of the well-being of humanity. However, at this moment Human Rights are not yet a standard subject in university programs for psychology, nor in postgraduate curricula or requirements for continuous professional development.

Therefore, the European Federation of Psychologists' Associations (EFPA) in association with the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) will gather 25 experts in the field of Human Rights and Psychology for an expert meeting on Human Rights Education for Psychologists.

The purpose of this meeting will be the development of a set of recommendations that will catalyse the creation of a 'model human rights curriculum'. This model curriculum will serve to the benefit of the education of psychologists and psychology students across Europe and beyond.

This project entails costs that EFPA - a non-profit organisation - cannot cover alone, as the expert meeting is entirely self-financed and does not benefit from any financial support other than the organisation's. The EIUC has agreed that the Human Rights Village at the Monastery of San Nicolò in Venice can be used as the meeting venue at no charge.
