Build A Scholarship School For Needy But Brilliant Children

I went to Olebu, a town located in Ghana and saw many children fooling about whilst their peers or friends were in school. I called one girl and asked “Why are you not in school? She replied “My grandmother with whom I’m staying with made me stop schooling because I couldn’t read.”

Really, I was filled with sadness. The girl’s story made me recollect the time I failed an entrance examination when I was moving from Class Two in the Living God International School, currently Cape Coast International to Class Three at Esuekyire M/A Primary. I failed the entrance examination, but was admitted into Class Two because I didn’t know how to read at that time.

After my encounter with the girl, I later discovered that many children in that poor community have dropped out from school just because they couldn’t read. I felt something must be done.

As an Author and a Motivational Speaker named Joseph Ofori Danquah, pen name “Joe Words,” I started gathering all the school dropouts and students who could not even read.

I asked a Pastor in the community to give us a space to operate and he did. I employed teachers to teach the less-privileged children how to read and understand.

Currently, we are teaching over 150 needy or less-privileged children who could not read. Out of this figure, 35% ranging from the age 6 to 9 years can read now. Also, 45% of children from 10 to 15 years can read now

I had to do more or go an extra mile so I introduced a Scholarship Scheme into Readers Lead Foundation. I realized that the needy children were brilliant but their parents were not sending them back to school because they were not having money . I started enrolling needy or less-privileged children in schools. Now, we have enrolled 60 needy children in schools.

Our mission is to give hope to the rejected or less-privileged children and help them claim their right to education. Readers Lead Foundation wants to instill the spirit of reading in children and help less-privileged children to become future leaders.

Why are we raising funds?

Two months ago, precisely July 2017, the church where we teach needy children exchanged two (2) of the days we use to teach the children with their program or activity.

Just last week, the church told us that they want their building back because their activities have increased.

To achieve our mission, we had planned to build permanent classrooms or scholarship school for the needy children.

Our goal was to raise $65,000 to build the scholarship

school for the children.

We started doing fundraising in the community where we operate and raised $2,000 offline. We couldn't raise the whole $65,000 offline or in the community so we decided to do online fundraising so that you could support us build the scholarship school for the needy children.

The $65,000 for the project will cover the following cost:

• Land and Legal Documentation $ 34,000
• Building Materials and Transportation $ 15,000
• Furnishing cost $ 8,000
• Library $ 3,000
• Dormitory for Orphans $5,000
