A massive explosion in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, has killed 200 people and injured more than 6,000 people, while dozens are still reported missing. It is estimated that more than 300,000 people have been internally displaced (IDP's) due to the loss of their homes. Authorities declared Beirut a "disaster city" and imposed a two-week state of emergency. It's still unclear what exactly caused this massive explosion, yet an early investigation reported 2,750 metric tons of the ammonium nitrate stored at a warehouse on Beirut Port since 2014. After the blast, several hospitals in the affected area were damaged, including being overloaded with injured people.
Lebanon, an already fragile state, has been suffering of years of insecurities, adding social instability and economic collapse reported in 2020. People are in dire need of basic humanitarian assistance such as "Food, Shelter, Water, Medical Supplies, and Hygiene kits to prevent COVID-19 spread and/or cash-based interventions to renovate and/or re-equip their destroyed houses. Moreover, families in distress ( following the massive blast) require urgent Psychological First Aid (PFA) to prevent the development of traumas into Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD ).
