Help Our Boys Get Circumcised Safely

I come from a region in Kenya where traditional circumcision ceremony for boys still takes place. In the ceremony young boys mostly from humble backgrounds and whose family can’t afford hospital based circumcision are taken to the river very early in the morning and forced to take a swim in an effort to numb their bodies as a form of anesthesia. They are then circumcised using one knife by a traditional medicine man. Not only are they predisposed to diseases but they are subjected to great pain as the ceremony is practiced without any form of modern anesthesia. Also the young boys are at risk of dying from excessive bleeding as very crude materials are used to cloth their wounds after circumcision. The circumcisers lack knowledge of modern medicine practices and rely on traditional methods to stop bleeding such as applying mud or plant sup.

The whole exercise is risky and predisposes the young boys to many dangers and a lifelong trauma. We can however change this, over the past two years our foundation ' Wezesha Jamii’ Foundation which translates to Empower the community; have been able to help many boys undergo hospitalized circumcision. We have catered for their hospital bills and ensured that they get circumcised in a hospital setting where care and diligence is observed. I ask for your help as we target to help 200 boys undergo through this exercise this year. We intend to have them in a boarding facility where they will undergo through the circumcision exercise under the hands of trained and well experienced doctors. They will undergo through guidance and counseling on various matters including their Sexuality, Identity, Drug and substance abuse among others.
